Earthquakes And The Tropics 6/22/2024

Good morning Explorers! I hope you all are having a great Saturday morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are in the world .I am enjoying the quietness of morning before everyone is awake ,where it is just me and my thoughts . This morning as I am waking up, it is overcast outside .I wish that meant it would stay on the cooler side today ,however temperatures are supposed to get up to to 95 degrees here today . Yep another scorcher of a day .

Looking at the tropics and the orange X Invest 93 L by Mexico may become the 2nd named storm after Alberto .This disturbance is 50% chance still to form into a Tropical storm and areas that Alberto went are areas to watch in regards to this system . This disturbance is moving northwestward . The Yellow X over Georgia is not expected to be anything more than a storm now with a 0% chance of anymore formation.

Earthquake wise , I must say I was surprised this morning to see there has been a 4.4 in Northern California . I stated at the end of my newsletter update yesterday that I would be keeping an eye on California due to earthquake activity in The Gulf Of California and Baja California Mexico . This earthquake occurred off of the Maacama fault zone . This fault has the possibility of a 7.4 earthquake . The area itself on google earth appears to have sparce houses and more than likely felt by people in the area . This was a shallow quake, and those are felt more strongly than deeper quakes .

Today a 5.0 Earthquake has hit the Ascension Island region in the Atlantic Ocean . It was 10 KM deep . It was on the African South American transform boundary ,and also a ways away from Ascension Volcano on Ascension Island . Ascension Island was discovered in 1501 and on Ascension day by Joao de Nova .Ascension Volcano is a very large stratovolcano .The island itself has more than 100 cones and lava domes . Last known eruption was in 1508 CE .This volcano sits on a rift zone . There are also people who live on Ascension Island .

A 5.1 has hit Catanduanes ,Philippines .It was 10 KM deep .The earthquake struck slightly away from the Eurasian Philippine Convergent boundary and subduction zone . The closest Island is Catanduanes Island .It is the 12th largest Island in the Philippines.

There has also been a 5.2 in Tonga near the Pacific Australian Convergent boundary also the subduction zone . This area moves northwesterly at 237 mm per year .

Well these are the earthquakes in the past 12 hours. There were 2s,3,and 4s today and several 5s .There really isn't a whole lot to say about todays earthquakes . I think it would be pertinent to remind people to have a plan and be prepared for any disaster , natural or manmade . Know what you and your family will do to make it through an event . I have posted a video that is great for earthquake preparedness that might aide you in being prepared .

So, yesterday was quite interesting as I received a knock on my door and learned that my poor van ,yep the one with the oil leak had been hit while parked minding it's own business .I could have understood this more if my van had been backed into ,yet it was driven into. I mean, how do you drive into another vehicle that is bigger than yours when you have a tiny car .smh lol . No real damage done to my van ,just some scratches on the bumper, however her car has a damaged bumper . Not worth insurance cost to fix the scuffing to my vehicle as much as I might not like it being there ,it just isn't worth the stress, I already have enough of that with the oil leak going on .

Today there is no video as Saturdays I generally take off for my family .

Here is wishing you all a great day .
